We’re still waiting on that 2 cent Amazon deposit, and since finger tapping doesn’t seem to be doing any good speeding things up, we’ve spent the last few days working on the rewards we’ll be giving out! Right now I’m designing a kick-ass piece of mail art for the Thank You Postcard and working on pages for the Summit to Sea Zine.
What’s a Zine?
Zine is the root word for magazine. It’s basically any small publication, but in this Gen-X world of ours it usually means a small hand-made well-crafted art book between 8 and 24 pages. Usually made out of 8 1/2 x 11 sized paper folded in half and stapled at the spine.
This is the second zine Charlie and I will have made. The first was a 16 page black and white one for our wedding and it ended up filling the place of a program. We got rave reviews and have been wanting to try our hands at a bit more arty version ever since. Summit to Sea gave us a good opportunity to dive in an make a really creative publication.
The end product will be at least 16 pages of black and white content with a full color cover. Inside will be stories about places on the route, funny self-deprecating artist bios, lots and lots of drawings, a few photos, and different stories about our expectations/hopes/fears/secret desires for the big slide down the river.
If you’ve never read a zine, this will be a good place to start. It’s the reward for the $25 pledge level (you get the Thank You Postcard too) and it’s included in almost every pledge level above that. This was important to us, because we knew that a copy of The Journal at the end would be expensive and this gave folks an option to see a smaller sillier version of what was to come. Basically, if you like the zine then you’ll love The Journal as we’re looking to make it our “Chapter Zero” of sorts.
Ok, back to work. Any good vibes you can send our way about the Amazon thing would be greatly appreciated!!

Oooooh Aaaaah! One of the Zine pages I finished up today. Although “finished up” is probably wrong. I’m sure I’ll fiddle with it right up until print! Right now I’m just sitting here thinking about things I want to change....
The Cover of our wedding zine. Our colors where Royal Purple, Quinacridone, and Emerald Green. It was fabulously obnoxious.
